The Red
Descriptive sheet:
Filming: 2025
Synopsis: Inspired by real events. Mario (Paco León) is a coach with an almost impossible mission: to get Spain to succeed in its first Cricket European Championship. But Spain is a country with no tradition in this sport and the national team is a disaster.
Everything changes when Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi players who work as taxi drivers, delivery workers, or shop assistants begin to join in, and who have cricket in their blood. What initially seems like an emergency solution ends up completely transforming the team: different languages, different customs, and many tensions… and also a new idea of what it means to represent Spain.
With no money, no sponsors, sewing their own uniforms and paying for their trips out of their own pockets, these players, the coach, and a high school teacher (Carolina Yuste) will fight for the shirt of a country that often turns its back on them. And, against all odds, they could turn Spain into a cricket powerhouse and, perhaps, take part in the Olympic Games.
