Hospital and Church of Sant Andreu

Hospital and church complex located northeast of the old town, in a residential area where the streets still retain their medieval irregularity. The main façade faces the small Plaça de l'Hospital.

Typology/Elements

The hospital is a complex of Renaissance buildings with various additions over the years (16th-20th centuries).

The oldest part, adjacent to the church, corresponds to the current nuns' residence. On the ground floor, there remains one original Gothic arch and another reconstructed one. At the beginning of the 20th century, a floor was added following the same façade composition, in a historicist language: openings with dripstones and a cornice with imbrications. Also from this period is the hospital expansion with other building sections in a modernist-historicist style.

The church is of a very simple classicist baroque style. It consists of a single nave with a barrel vault and transverse arches on pilasters, resulting from an increase in both length and height. The main façade has a classical portal formed by columns and a curved pediment, with a rose window above. Two symmetrical square towers flank the top.
