Hospital center
The building is located in an infill area between party walls situated between Poble Nou and the Avinguda de les Bases de Manresa, developed in the second half of the 20th century. It is one of the last expansion areas built over the irrigation system of the Sèquia de Manresa. Its development was influenced by the route of the Catalan Railways from Manresa to Sallent and Súria and by the first buildings, such as the Municipal Slaughterhouse. In recent years, urbanization has continued, it has been better connected to the city center after the removal of the railway, and it has become the university campus of the city.
Typology/Elements
Building intended for healthcare facilities between party walls with a basement and ground floor plus 7 levels, resolving a chamfered corner. It is a concrete structure building, with exposed concrete on the ground floor and in certain interior areas, allowing a flexible interior layout and large glass surfaces on the façade, especially in the chamfered corner area, which corresponds to the vertical circulation module and the waiting rooms between the corridors of rooms. The side façades are of different heights to adapt to the type of street: ground floor plus 5 levels on Flor de Lis Street and ground floor plus 7 levels on Bases de Manresa Avenue.
The horizontal rhythm is highlighted on the façade by the alignment of the openings. The wall finish is made with artificial stone pieces, a typical material from the sixties and seventies manufactured by some companies from Manresa. The fifth floor has a recessed façade, breaking the vertical rhythm and visually accommodating the height difference between the two façades. The openings are made of glass with aluminum framing. The roofs are flat, including the interior part of the ground floor, which is illuminated by skylights.
