Church of El Carme
Church located on top of Puigmercadal, within the Old Quarter and forming part of the first walled enclosure. Currently, the structure is consolidated and the element has a meaningful identity value in itself.
Typology/Elements
Gothic church (original part) and historicist neo-Gothic (1959) with a nave and side aisles of lesser height. Ribbed vaults, with keystone, separated by four pointed transverse arches. A series of former arches separate the nave from the side aisles. It has a polygonal apse, ribbed vault and triumphal arch over pilasters. The side chapels are unfinished. On the outside, the remains of the old 18th-century sacristy can be seen (on one side of the apse). The church has a concrete structure, common masonry and brick walls with bush-hammered stone cladding.
