Montserrat Square

Medieval square that emerged between the walled enclosure of the 13th century and the expansion of the 16th century, with the Sant Francesc wall as its boundary.

The square is adjacent to the Montserrat church, the new courts and the former Balcells factory (currently the space where the Manresa Municipal Conservatory of Music is located).

With the establishment of the new courts (which bring together the different judicial offices that were spread throughout the city), Montserrat square becomes the main access point to this facility on foot and from the city center. For this reason, its new urban redevelopment, in accordance with the parameters established for the old town, must not only contribute to the environmental improvement of this area of the city but also ensure proper accessibility to this facility.

The Montserrat church was built in 1887 and in 1909 it was burned during the Tragic Week. Years later it was rebuilt.
