Typology/Elements
The Casino is a large building, with the façade aligned to the Passeig, rectangular and symmetrical in plan, consisting of a semi-basement, mezzanine, and main floor. The complex is made up of three volumes, the central one more prominent and the side ones perpendicular to it, articulated by two staircases located on both sides of the central volume, which projects forward forming a semicircular bay. The façades are symmetrically composed, with a great profusion of decorative elements of historicist, classicist, and floral types. The main and rear façades were surrounded by gardens that occupied 84,000 square yards.
The mezzanine is a modification that fits rather poorly with the rest of the building, made in 1917 by architect Josep Firmat in order to install a bar there. In 1919 the terrace facing the Passeig was inaugurated. In the main hall of the south wing, the only one completed according to the project, the rich decoration in an eclectic and modernist style can be appreciated.
