New Factory

The structure of this factory has represented and still represents a milestone in the urban landscape of Manresa. Its strategic location, between the Remei neighborhood and the Escodines, next to Via de Sant Ignasi - Avinguda de Bertran i Serra, gives it a relevant role as an identifying element, not only from a landscape and heritage point of view, but also because of its historical and social significance. The group of buildings and the fence that delimited the industrial site were part of the landscape. Today, the rehabilitation project and the transformation into new uses must give continuity to the urban fabric that has formed around the old factory, including the workers' housing on the other side of the street, which make up a characteristic typological unit in the worker housing model.

Typology/Elements

The expansion work of the 1920s consists of a large rectangular nave measuring 37 m wide and 54 m long, with four towers flanking the ends. On the ground floor and first floor it housed the machinery, and in the basement the facilities. The floor plan is open, with four bays covered by trusses. The tower on the north side protrudes from the side facade, and has one more floor than the other three towers, in order to give greater prominence to the main entrance. The openings are spacious and framed with brick, while the walls are built with stone. A building of sober lines, in the industrial modernist style.
