Factory of the Locks
Located on the west bank of the Cardener River, in the Valldaura neighborhood, oriented north-south. The surroundings of the old factory have been recently urbanized as a result of the construction of a new residential area.
Typology/Elements
The "Panyos" factory is a building that was constructed according to the model of a large house, with a gable roof and limited width, since iron was not yet used to make columns and floors. The dimensions of the factory are as follows: 110 m long and 10 m wide. The building has five floors, and the naves are divided by fired-brick columns. The ground floor (on the river side and basement from Francesc Moragues street) is reinforced by a system of double arches, which rest on wide columns. Externally, the factory presents a succession of rectangular windows (originally 386), arranged symmetrically, which give great brightness to the interior.
